Evaluation - Question 1

In what ways does your media product use , develop or challenge forms and conventions for real media products?

Evaluation Question 1

Created with Powerpoint , but was too big for blog had to be converted to a Beeclip File

Evaluation Question- 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation Question 2 : How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

Representations Of 'Love Triangle'

MES : Through mise en scene, representation was shown through clothing. The main character was dressed in smart work clothes ( blouse , blazer , skirt ) this let the audience know she was of a middle class status also through her job , the exterior of the building let the audience know that the person who worked inside was quite corporate as the building was quite posh , big and clean.

Evaluation - Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

Evaluation Question- 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Representation is presented through:

  • Representation refers to stereotypes, in our film we stereotype:

  • A Office Women
  • A Cheating Partner (the guy)
  • A Mistress

MES- The costumes used in our film opening indicated that the film will take place in a working industry, where the actors would wear office clothes. We included office equipment such as computers, folders, a telephone

A particular match cut that waas used to represent gender was when the character picks up the images of her and her partner and then she goes to sit down.
The soundtrack we created relates to our film as it is a romance thriller, however it has some aspiration of one of the character being a psycho.
Wee zoomed into the picture and turn it out of focus for more effect, it also hints that the something may happen to the character in the picture.

Stereotypes can be good because the audience can easily identify them, however it can also exaggerate the truth; so the film can become distorted and untrue.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation Question 4 : Who would be the audience for your media project ?

Being that our film is a romantic thriller, it has been decided that our target audience is a female skew ranging from 25 - 45 . This helped us in our marketisation for our film as we know how to target audience. We knew how to attract our audience , we done this through the way it was advertised , the film title had the word 'LOVE' this would've caught their attention as it was something that women are interested in , also their age aswel means that they would've most probably experienced a type of love in their life . We know that by having a woman as the main character would also attract our target audience , because they would've been interested to see what her story was about and if they could empathise and sympathise with the character.

Evaluation Question- 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The Target audience for our movie would probably mature woman or possibly divorced women.  Our film is a romance thriller, it relates to these particular individuals as they relate to particular characters as they may have experienced the thing that take place during the film.
Our film may have a large market ranging from the ages of 25 to 45, however girls from the age of 18 up wards may be interested in the film as they may want to prepare of what may happen to them in the future, they may want to learn and get ready for future relationships.

Evaluation Question 5 : How did you attract / address your audience ?

After watching my film , i got some audience review . I made sure i got it from a boy and a girl so that there would be two completely different opinions. Our location was set in an office and through clothing the audience could tell what kind of people the characters were (e.g middle class ), this could've appealed to them as they may find this interesting as it is unusual or they can empathise with the character . The opening of my film would appeal to women through actors as the main character is a woman therefore they can relate to the character. The storyline was based on a romantic storyline again appealing to women. In our rough cut edit we were given feedback to make our film longer and also told to add music to our sequence. This was helpful as by adding the music made the film more appealing to watch. Another appealing idea we had to attract the audience was a stylised title being that our film was called 'LOVE TRIANGLE' we made the letter 'A' in triangle, a red triangle this appealed to the audience as they could get some sort of idea what the film was about through the colour red as it connotes with many things e.g ( love , war , death ).  So far we have reached our audience through :

  • Cinema Screening ( Screen on The Green )
  • Vimeo
We are planning to release our film on facebook to receive a viral audience, which will make the film become more popular and gain a wider viewing audience.

Another way of appealing to our audience can be through advertisements e.g. :

  • magazines ( mainly woman/ gossip magazine)
  • newspapers
  • bus stops / tube stations
  • buses
  • radio

Evaluation Question- 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Audience Feedback

We may attract the audience by:
  • Putting a advert onto the internet
  • Viral such as Facebook
  • Social Network
  • Women magazine
  • Adverts across busses
  • Adverts in train stations
By Promoting the film we are encouraging a range of different people to come and watch our film, from people travelling to work by train to housewives at home reading women magazines. Our opening is set in a office so is more likely to appeal to those who work especially women as they can relate to the characters.  After our groups rough cut review we was inspired to make a few changes such as adding background music to the titles which related to the film Fatal Attraction, which also related to the target audience we wanted which was "Mature Women"Our film reached are audience through both the cinema and DVD, i intent to put pir video up on Facebook and Youtube in which it will attract more people to come and watch it.

Evaluation Question 6 : what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?

Technologies Used :

  • Flip Camera
  • JVC Camera
  • Blogger
  • Video Drive
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Sound Track Pro

Evaluation Question- 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this products?

The technology I have used:

  • A digital camera
  • A flip camera
  • A hard drive
  • Finalcut pro
  • Soundtrack pro
  • Foley sounds

The technology I have used has created more of an effect on my film opening, through both sound and visually. Without the sounds in which we added to our film opening it would not be that effective. for example, we decided to add soundtrack pro and foley sound on specific events on our film; ie- when a character was typing on a computer keyboard, foley sound made it more effective as it gave it more volume. Another sound we used was the slamming of the door without that it would o been less efective and would not have an effect o the audience. A visual effect we included was match cut through the editing process which allowed our film flow fluently.

Evaluation - Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluation Q3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I will be answering this question with the use of Prezi.

Evaluation Q1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For this question, I will be answering with a PowerPoint.

Evaluation Q2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

With the use of Wordle, I will show some of the terminology and uses of techniques used in our opening.

In our film opening,  the stereotypes that occur are very obvious. For example the location being an office, and a female involved already gives of a stereotypical view of how "women only work in an office." The location also indicates 'inner city' where most upper class buildings are located. As it's more inner city, we can probably tell the characters are going to be more or less the social class of posh/classy.  In this case, it gives of a negative representation of female workers by indicating they all work in offices, Especially upper class.

Evaluation Question 7 : Looking back at your preliminary task , what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The skills I learnt whilst doing the preliminary task were very helpful for when I done my actual film opening. When I started doing the preliminary task I was introduced to storyboards , this helped us as we knew what we wanted to create visually because we had it in front us this helped us know what camera shots we wanted to use and how we wanted our characters to stand etc . We also had to plan what our plot would be about by doing this we were able to know exactly what we wanted this made it less confusing and straightforward when we started filming the prelim. When filming our filming we learnt the importance of lighting and how it affects the shot, the right lighting determines whether you have a good shot or a GREAT shot, so we made sure we shot the prelim in a place that had natural light. As this was our first filming task we developed our camera skills as we had to experiment to know what would be the perfect shot for that particular scene , in the prelim a range of shots were used such as extreme close up , long shots . In the prelim we used props which were very useful as it got us prepared for our actual film opening, we used “evidence” e.g. money in a plastic bag as our prelim was about a police drama, doing this I found that misc en scene helps with the clarity of a film by having props it allows the audience to know what is going on or where it’s going on. The most important skill I learnt whilst doing the prelim was how to edit, and not break the 180 degrees rule. The 180 degrees rule is when two characters should always have the same left to right relationship with each other at all times. This was VERY important that this was carried out in my film otherwise it could’ve been ruined! But luckily we didn’t break the 180 degrees rule as we had learnt what to do from the prelim, also through editing I feel the prelim really helped my film as our match cuts flowed quite naturally , because we was aware of the rule. To conclude I feel I have learnt many skills the prelim helped a MASSIVE amount on how my film turned out as we were used to the process , we knew what to do to create a great film !!!

Evaluation Q6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation Question- 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

During the filming and editing the preliminary film, I just learnt how to use the 180 degree rule, however  we use the 180 degree more successfully in our film opening "Love Triangle" as it was not as obvious as our preliminary film was. During the editing process our film had many match cuts in which it made the film flow, we got better at making the match cut connect and come together making the film flow fluently. Also our storyboard became more detailed in or film opening with specific effect that we planned to use such as match cuts and foley sounds, compared to the preliminary film; we did not include any additional sound such as soundtrack pro.  In our film opening we got stronger using the camera as we got more familiar and adapted and gained more skills in how to use it effectively. We began filming at different angles and zoomed in and out in areas that were needed.  in our preliminary film we lacked filmin in a variety of angles and our camera skills were very limited as we did not have that much skills and experience using the camera.
We used a variety of props in our film opening as we were able to plan a co ordinate the prop that we needed such as a computer and a phone. However we lacked using props in our preliminary film as we did not have enough time to plan the props we needed, also we didn't not have all the props needed as the scene was mean't to take place in a police interview station, but we had to film it in a classroom.
During the course of filming my group experienced some lighting difficulties as we was in a room that lacked good natural lighting. We had to over come this by filming from different angles trying to find the best light source possible. As we filmed over a number of days, we had to film at the right time of day; in order to get the right amount of sun light. We also had to plan our filming process by filming according to what the weather was like. For example, we started on a sunny day therefore we could not film on a foggy day. The preliminary film lacked natural lighting as the classroom was dark and due to the weather.

Evaluation Q5

How did you attract/address your audience?

The ways in which we could of attracted our audience is through viral advertisement. As our film would be extremely small, we couldn't possibly fund advertisements on buses, train stations etc. It would also be unlikely to have a big effect on the bypassing person as it's completely unknown. The ways we could of advertised our film virally:

  • Facebook- As millions of people are on Facebook, it would be a brilliant place to spread your work and advertise our film. We could start by posting it to our friends/family, which could then spread to their friends and family and so on.
  • Twitter- Again like Facebook, Twitter is extremely popular globally. And in my opinion, much bigger than Facebook as you could spread your work to strangers or even celebrities. Another way to promote it on Twitter is by perhaps getting a top trend on your film which would attract millions to the topic and bring awareness.
  • Websites- Creating your own websites and bringing more information is also a good advertising technique. As long as you have a person who can design and create information well, it could be very easy to build up.
There were various stuff in our opening that would attract an audience. For example the mise en scene and location of an office, smartly dressed etc. Would attract perhaps office working females as it's indicating the stereotype of women only working in offices, under men's power. The storyline is definitely something which we believe would be a good attraction to the audience. The actors wouldn't necessarily attract a huge fan base as we would be completely unknown, even locally. However, the Genre as well as the film title is particularly eye catching for the female audience. Feedback on our rough edit definitely helped our opening be improved. As we lacked conviction in our match cuts and missed out on a couple of shots, we took the constructive criticism and feedback seriously and instantly improved it. This caused us to work harder on our opening to make it as good as it could possibly be.

We also caught some audience feedback after the cinematic viewing.

Audience Feedback

Evaluation Q4

Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience we aimed our opening at were mainly women. As it’s a Romantic Thriller, it would be known to attract a wider female fan base, although as always it was aimed at everyone as much as women. It would also be aimed at women aged perhaps from 16+. As it’s a romantic thriller, it would require a lot of attention to the film and it’s quite powerful in the way it would be portrayed. Therefore targeted at a more sophisticated age. As the sub genre is Romance, this also has an influence on the appeal to women, not so much to men. Still this might not be the case, as there are plenty of men who would perhaps enjoy a Romantic Thriller as be very keen on our movie. The USP would definitely be the storyline, as it seems like the type of storyline that would excite the audience and have them grow into the film. I’d also say the act of female power in our movie would attract other females as it perhaps expresses their emotions/feelings conveyed into our film.

Evaluation Q7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When we attempted our preliminary filming, it was very useful to our later filming.  It taught us rules such as the 180 degree rule, match cutting and again helped us improve our editing. During our planning and storyboarding, we found it challenging as it was the first time we attempted it.

This was one of our first attempts at making a film, and of course we found it difficult. But we still done well in terms of making an opening/film. Compared to our final film, we improved on many things as our knowledge of filming improved. We improved our awareness on keeping the 180 degrees rule and making the match cuts well done. We also used more technology such as soundtrack pro and used Final Cut Pro more efficiently to get the best out of our opening.

In our final film we used a lot of titles, sounds and planning. Like the prelim, we spent lots of time doing so but made sure we were much better in our film opening. Overall, we learnt more and more about making a better film since our  prelim attempt. We fully learnt the rules of filming and could easily spot a fault if there was one. We've definitely learnt a lot and this will be useful for future activities.

Bloopers For Love Triangle

Love Triangle

Equipment used during filming process

During the filming process, many sources of equipment were used;

Flip Camera

A Flip camera is an easy - use, portable camera that allows practicality of quick filming. As a group, we used this to film everything we did during the making of Love Triangle to put on the blog and show what we did. The camera has a build in USB port that makes it easy to plug into the computer and upload our work; straight to the blog.

JVC Camcorder

The JVC Camcorder that we used to film our opening sequence was very practical and useful. It was not too big, so it was easy to carry around if we needed to go off site to film. It is able to sit comfortably on a tripod witch added to the stability of the filming process.

Synopsis of Love Triangle

Love fanatic, Tracey  (Naomi Oti - Sampson) has had a hard time with her ex boyfriend (Ryan Marques - Sampaio) after breaking up with him from a three year relationship. Not only does she hate the fact that she is not with him anymore, she can not bare to see him with another woman; his new girlfriend (Kanisha Martin). when Tracey finally finds out that the man of her dreams has found a new lady, can she keep it together and get over him?

Tweeking with the Final Edit

Although we had finished editing our opening sequence, there were still things that needed to be altered. For example, some of the the title sequences were in the wrong order and that may have hindered our grading. We came in and fixed the problem and now all the title sequences are in the correct order.

Love Triangle Completed!

Finally, we have completed filming and editing our opening sequence of our physiological thriller. After absences, lates and a lot of time spent filming we have got a finished piece of coursework.

One More Fault........

Although we have finished , we have just one error to fix , our titles . We need to make them run in order of set sequence .
