The skills I learnt whilst doing the preliminary task were very helpful for when I done my actual film opening. When I started doing the preliminary task I was introduced to storyboards , this helped us as we knew what we wanted to create visually because we had it in front us this helped us know what camera shots we wanted to use and how we wanted our characters to stand etc . We also had to plan what our plot would be about by doing this we were able to know exactly what we wanted this made it less confusing and straightforward when we started filming the prelim. When filming our filming we learnt the importance of lighting and how it affects the shot, the right lighting determines whether you have a good shot or a GREAT shot, so we made sure we shot the prelim in a place that had natural light. As this was our first filming task we developed our camera skills as we had to experiment to know what would be the perfect shot for that particular scene , in the prelim a range of shots were used such as extreme close up , long shots . In the prelim we used props which were very useful as it got us prepared for our actual film opening, we used “evidence” e.g. money in a plastic bag as our prelim was about a police drama, doing this I found that misc en scene helps with the clarity of a film by having props it allows the audience to know what is going on or where it’s going on. The most important skill I learnt whilst doing the prelim was how to edit, and not break the 180 degrees rule. The 180 degrees rule is when two characters should always have the same left to right relationship with each other at all times. This was VERY important that this was carried out in my film otherwise it could’ve been ruined! But luckily we didn’t break the 180 degrees rule as we had learnt what to do from the prelim, also through editing I feel the prelim really helped my film as our match cuts flowed quite naturally , because we was aware of the rule. To conclude I feel I have learnt many skills the prelim helped a MASSIVE amount on how my film turned out as we were used to the process , we knew what to do to create a great film !!!
